Keeping you updated with my latest goings on.

January 23rd 2009
It’s been quite a while since I last blogged, Christmas and the new year seemed to take over my life! I had a great Christmas in Ireland, and then celebrated my 21st back in England, before getting on with a lot of work. I’m preparing for my future now that education will soon be concluding, so in all it’s been a busy old time!

I’ve just upgraded to a new camera, and I love it, so keep on the look-out here and on My Flickr for some new shots from it! I’ve got a few gigs lined up for February and onwards, but most excitingly I’m going to Rome on Tuesday. I can’t wait to go, and of course to take photos of all the sights, it’s such a great city.

That’s all for now, got to rush off again, but I’ll be back soon enough with lovely photos of Rome to swoon over.

Black Kids were really great live, supported by Ladyhawke which was a definite bonus! Had a really great party atmosphere, managed to get some good shots despite the ‘no flash’ rule that always seems to apply these days no matter what I do!

I’ve got a few small-scale shoots with some musicians in the next couple of weeks as well as loads of live gigs lines up, so it’s all go at the moment! I’m really excited for some of the live music I’ll be shooting soon, but you’ll have to keep tuned for that! I’m putting some material in for an upcoming exhibition in the Eldon Building on Winston Churchill Avenue later this month, and I’m also exploring the idea of selling some prints in a photography shop which opens next week, but I’ll keep you posted.

Take care y’all x

I’ve had a bit of a crazy time of it recently, getting a lot of gigs in so they’ll all be coming soon, and the radio show is doing well, see my earlier post for more info on that. I got to shoot Funeral For A Friend supported by Cancer Bats last night, who both gave great performances. I absolutely love this photo of Cancer Bats frontman Liam Cormier (left) and of Funeral For A Friend’s singer Matt Davies (right).

I also had a shoot with young alternative model Kirsten Joss earlier in the week, was a nice relaxed shoot down in Southsea, got some really nice shots, these were my favourites from the day:

I’m off to photograph the Black Kids gig at the Portsmouth Pyramids tonight, should be a really good gig so expect some photos soon! :)

October 16th 2008

Been a short while since I last updated! Got to shoot The Script live at the Portsmouth Pyramids last night which was great. I must say I do quite like their album, and may have to admit I probably like them a bit more for being Irish, and from Dublin!

I’m not too sure I like the Pyramids – as a venue it’s okay but to photograph bands it’s not particularly great, the Wedgewood Rooms is much better in my opinion. Especially when they tell you not to use flash! It wasn’t too bad, I did manage to get some great shots, and it was a good show when I wasn’t watching it through a lens!

I’ve got a few promising things in the pipeline at the moment, might be shooting another upcoming model down here in Portsmouth next week, and should be doing a lot more live music stuff over the next couple of months.

I’m also now running my own show The Live Hour at Pure FM with sound engineer Enrique Bazan, we’re all about live music and want to hear from as many local bands as possible. I’m also the Rock/Indie music rep for the station’s music team, so any bands contact me if you want your stuff reviewed or played!

Get in touch – thelivehour@gmail.com, www.myspace.com/thelive hour. Sundays 6-7pm www.purefm.com.

Take care x

September 18th 2008

Had a bit of a crazy time of it recently, started a new job at last but had loads of interviews and meetings this week! Settling into my new flat and waiting for our third flatmate to move in!

On the photography front, I’m eager to get together another shoot like the one in August with Annita. It all went so well [after all the massive organisation of designers and venues!] and was so much fun that it’s making me really want to do it all over again. I’m advertising at the moment to hear from models, fashion designers, hair stylists and high fashion make-up artists to see if I can get a team together of people all looking to work toward the same ideas and goals.

Any creative people want to get involved? Email me asap! lauracallan@yahoo.com

I’m also meeting with up and coming singer Bianca this week to discuss a shoot I might be arranging with her record company, so I’ll keep you updated with that too!

September 2nd 2008

Finally got the photos finished from my shoot with Annita back in August. There were about 1000 photos to go through and I was photoshopping like mad, and moving house at the same time!

The shoot was great, we had three designers from all around England come to style Annita for the shoot, and their designs and outfits complimented the shoot really well.

Also, after a lot of email pleading, we were lucky enough to shoot at Portsmouth’s King’s Theatre, Historic Dockyard and the Clarence Hotel. All three locations were really beautiful, and gave us a great range of settings for the shoot.

I was really happy with the day, all the photos will be used for Annita’s modeling portfolio as she tries to break into commercial modeling. They’ll also be featured in the portfolios and websites of the featured designers; Jennifer Nguyen, Linsey Mitchell and Kiah Tulloch.

There were lots of lovely photos from the shoot, but I think out of all of them this was my favourite:
